MA AWHONN is the Massachusetts section of the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses, a national non-profit organization of over 22,000 health care professionals that promotes the health and well being of women and newborns.

AWHONN’s mission is to improve and promote the health of women and newborns and to strengthen the nursing profession through the delivery of superior advocacy, research, education and other professional and clinical resources to nurses and other health care professionals.

Fewer Babies Born Before Full Term!

"Efforts by hospitals and government officials to decrease the percentage of babies born before full term appear to be paying off in Massachusetts and nationwide, according to a new report.

Last year, Massachusetts hospitals performed just over 1 percent of their deliveries on average as early elective deliveries, via scheduled induced deliveries or cesarean sections for no medical reason, before 39 weeks, compared with a statewide rate of 15 percent in 2010."
